Frederick K. Brewington Honored by Long Island Press
The Long Island Press has named Frederick K. Brewington to its 15th Annual Power List. Mr. Brewington honored at a special ceremony on April 12. The list names the 50 most influential Long Islanders in their respective fields and how they raise awareness among Long Island residents.
Mr. Brewington was recognized for his ongoing fight against racism, police misconduct and housing discrimination. He continues to address institutional racism and conduct research on myriad issues, including school segregation on Long Island.
Last year, Mr. Brewington was part of a legal team that fought to uphold a U.S. District Court decision that found a 2004 zoning decision by the Village of Garden City had an unjustified disparate impact on African-Americans and Latinos in violation of the federal Fair Housing Act. He has also handled a number of cases involving police brutality and racial harassment and discrimination in the workplace.
This is the sixth time Mr. Brewington has been named to the list. He was first listed in 2004, then again in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016.
