Court Grants Trial for Muslim Woman Kicked off MTA Bus Because She Was Wearing a Burqa
A Muslim woman will be allowed to have her lawsuit proceed against the Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) in a religious discrimination lawsuit, thanks to a recent ruling from the United States District Court, Eastern District of New York. The Plaintiff, Maria Louis, alleges in her lawsuit that she was unjustly removed from a public bus for wearing a burqa.

U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Upholds Jury Verdict for Victim of Brutality While in Suffolk Jail
The United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit, upheld a $95,000 jury verdict for Perrim Anderson in a case involving police brutality, and the violation of Mr. Anderson's civil and constitutional rights. The defendants named in the lawsuit included the County of Suffolk, Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, Suffolk County Correctional Facility, and Correction Officers Vincent Aparicio and Maria McAuley.

Federal Court Rules in Favor of Widow in Housing Discrimination Case
U.S. District Court Judge Arthur D. Spatt of the Eastern District of New York issued a decision in Defendants’ Motion seeking Summary Judgment, finding that the defendants, including Jay Levy, violated the Fair Housing Act and New York State Human Rights Law by refusing to rent Mrs. Sharon Johnson and her late husband, Ennis Johnson, an apartment because of her husband’s illness. This decision paves the way for the case to be presented to a jury that will hear evidence in this housing discrimination case.
