LAW STUDENTS

Summer Associate Program

Each year for the past 31 years, The Law Offices of Frederick K. Brewington has hired law students as part of its Summer Associate Program. This program was instituted by Attorney Frederick Brewington and his wife, the Reverend Adrienne Brewington, a former attorney, to provide opportunities for law students who have an interest in the area of civil rights and to encourage and foster students who have a desire to explore and experience what it is like to work in a fast-paced, small law firm that is involved in high-profile civil rights litigation work. Please note our Summer Associate Program is strictly conducted in-person at our office in Hempstead, New York.

The 2026 Civil Rights Summer Associate application period is now closed. The firm is excited to welcome three (3) highly competitive and talented law students from across the nation to our office this summer.

If you will be a 3L in the 2027-2028 Academic Year, please check back in January 2027 for the beginning of the next application cycle. In the meantime, you can stay up to date with the happenings of the firm by signing up for our monthly newsletter.

Externships

Law students seeking academic credit during the fall or spring semesters are encouraged to apply for externship opportunities with the firm. Externs work directly with attorneys on ongoing litigation while gaining exposure to civil rights practice. Responsibilities may include legal research and writing, trial preparation, and observing client appearances and client meetings. Please note that externship opportunities are strictly conducted in-person at our office in Hempstead, New York.

Applicants interested in a fall semester externship for Fall 2026 should apply by June 26, 2026.

Applicants interested in a spring semester externship for Spring 2027 should apply by October 30, 2026.

These positions are ideal for students interested in law, civil rights, public policy, political science, history, sociology, criminal justice, and related fields. Please note that the internship opportunity is strictly conducted in-person at our office in Hempstead, New York. At this time, undergraduate students are unable to be accommodated for a summer internship.
